Update

It was so nice to be able to meet with each of you during SEP's.  Thank you for taking the time out of your busy lives to come in and set some goals with your child.

Don't forget that this Wednesday, October 2nd is the walking field trip to the apple orchard.  All kindergarten students will come at 8:15 A.M. and will go home at 11:15 A.M.  We need as many parent helpers as we can get to make sure that everyone is safe.

This week I will be checking to see which students meet September's goal:  Writing first name with correct placement on the lines...first letter capital and the rest lowercase.  Keep practicing!  For the month of October, the goal will be for every child to identify 13 uppercase and 13 lowercase letters.

During SEP's I had a request for the number poems that we are using to learn how to write our numbers.  I have embedded the document below for a packet created by Fran Kramer.  On each page it has the poems that we have been using to help us remember how to write our numbers.  Enjoy!

SEP's & Field Trip

SEP's are coming up on September 25th and 26th.  Remember that there will be no kindergarten on September 25th.  The on-line sign-up will be active on Monday, September 9th.  Below is a link to the Online Scheduler.  You will need a password.  Try using rosecrest as this was the one used for assessment appointments.  I have 53 families that I will be meeting with, so unfortunately my appointments are limited to only 15 minutes each.  If you think you will need to meet longer, let me know and I can schedule something for a different day.

We are fortunate to go on a walking field trip to a local apple orchard.  This will take place on Wednesday, October 2nd.  All kindergarten classes will attend during the morning session.  This means that the afternoon children will follow the morning schedule starting at 8:15 AM and dismissing at 11:15 AM.  Please mark your calendars for this activity.  I hope this gives the afternoon families adequate time to arrange for your child to be able to attend in the morning.  Let me know if you run into any difficulties.

Thank you all so much for your help and support.  I look forward to meeting with you all!

Road to Success

On Tuesday, papers were sent home for the Road to Success reading program.  This is an incentive program sponsored by local businesses to motivate kids to read.  If your child reads, or is read to five times a week he/she earns one ticket.  If he/she reads or is read to seven times a week, two tickets are earned.  These tickets are placed into a drawing for some really great prizes.  One of my students last year won a lava lamp.  Other great prizes include bikes and scooters.

To make things easier on teachers, you can keep track of reading days on-line.  The website is rtsutah.com.  Your child's username was sent in the homework folder.  It is your child's first and last name all together in lowercase letters.  The pin is 0104 for all students.  If you want to keep track "low tech" style, below is a PDF that you can print out to track reading.  You can send them to school with your child and I will enter it into the computer.  I will be checking the website and giving tickets to those who have earn them.

I have also attached the Hold Harmless Agreement below.  Try to return this in the homework folder by Friday.

Thank you for your support with this program and happy reading!

Homework & Update

We are off to a great start!  Your child is bringing home a homework folder this week.  In a plastic sleeve you will find the instructions as well as a calendar.  Please read the instructions.  It explains everything.  You will need to keep the calendar the entire month because it will tell you what your child should do each day.  Please have your child return the folder with the completed homework on Friday (or the last day of the week).  New homework will come home every Monday (or the first day of the week).

This week we will be reviewing the letters Aa, Bb, and Cc as well as the numbers 1 and 2.  You can find out what we are studying each week by clicking on the Math and Language Arts tabs.  Also, check out the Youtube Favorites tab.  This will have some of the videos we have been watching in class to reinforce important concepts.

The goal this month for your child is name writing.  The first letter must be capitalized and the rest of the letters must be lower case.  The name will need to be placed correctly on the lines (top, middle, and bottom).  If your child has already mastered this, move on to last name.  See the example below.  Here is a link for creating name writing pages.

I will be sending an e-mail out this week with a link to Sign-up Genius.  This will be an opportunity for you to sign up to help out in the classroom.  I will need help with centers as well as tearing pages out of math books and collating them.

Thank you for your support!  This will be a great year!
